Privacy
Paperlight has no accounts, no analytics and no automatic crash reports. Your images never leave your Mac unless you share a strip through your own iCloud. These are all the network connections the app can make.
Network connections
- Update checks
- Downloads the release list (Sparkle) when you choose Check for Updates, or on a schedule if you turn on automatic checks. It sends only the app and macOS versions that any download carries.
- License activation
- Once, when you enter a key. It sends the key and a hashed machine ID to limit the number of Macs. For the key from your purchase e-mail, Paperlight’s server asks Lemon Squeezy whether the order is still valid. After that, the license is checked offline.
- iCloud
- Off by default. When on, pins and images sent from your iPhone sync through your own iCloud; we cannot see them.
- Shared strips
- Only when you create or join a shared strip. Captures on that strip travel through the iCloud sharing zone of the person who created it, to the people they invited. Nothing passes through a Paperlight server.
On your Mac
- Text recognition, search, questions and content detection run entirely on your Mac.
- Titles, descriptions, translation and voice transcription use Apple Intelligence, Translation and speech recognition on device. Nothing is sent to a cloud.
- Clipboard history is encrypted on disk, or kept in memory only if you choose. Content from password managers is skipped.
- The privacy report in Settings lists every connection the app made in the last 30 days: date, purpose and host name. Never the content.
- Bug reports open as an e-mail draft when you choose Send Report, so you read every line before sending.
